Quick answer
On a US order of a $25 item with $5 shipping, Etsy takes $3.30 (11.0% of the $30 the buyer pays before tax): the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee ($1.95) and 3% + $0.25 payment processing ($1.15). You receive $26.70 before your own costs. Rates are Etsy's published US fees, checked 2026-10-15.
About the Etsy Fee Calculator
This calculator applies Etsy's published 2026 fee schedule to a single order: the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing for your bank country, plus Offsite Ads, Share & Save, currency conversion and regulatory operating fees whenever they apply. Add what the item costs you and what you pay for postage, and it shows the payout, profit, margin and the lowest item price at which the order breaks even.
How to use it
Enter the item price, how many the buyer ordered and what you charged for shipping. The calculator builds the order subtotal (items + shipping + gift wrap), then applies each fee to the base Etsy actually uses. That last part matters: the 6.5% transaction fee ignores sales tax, but the payment processing fee is charged on the full amount the buyer paid, tax included. Several popular calculators apply processing to the item price alone and understate your fees on every taxed order.
Add your cost per item and what you pay for postage to see profit, margin and a break-even price — the lowest item price at which the order stops losing money. If you want to work backwards from a target margin instead, use the Etsy price calculator.
Under "Sales tax, Offsite Ads, Share & Save, currency" you can model the less common cases: an order attributed to Offsite Ads, a sale through your own Share & Save link (Etsy credits back 4%), a currency conversion fee when your listings are priced in a different currency from your bank account, and international orders for Canadian, Australian and New Zealand sellers.
Use cases
- Before you list or re-price. Check what you will actually keep at a given price, shipping charge and cost.
- Free shipping or not. Compare folding postage into the price with charging it separately — fees apply to both.
- Offsite Ads orders. See what a 15% or 12% ad fee does to one order, including the $100 cap on large ones.
- Selling from outside the US. Apply the processing and regulatory fees for the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the euro area.
- Reconciling a statement. Rebuild an order's fees line by line to compare with your Etsy payment account.
Etsy fees in 2026, at a glance
For a seller with a US bank account, a typical Etsy sale carries three fees, plus a fourth if the buyer clicked an Etsy ad:
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing for 4 months, the automatic relist when an item sells, and each extra unit sold in the same order |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping + gift wrap (not sales tax, for US sellers) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | The total the buyer paid — including shipping and sales tax |
| Offsite Ads (when it applies) | 15% or 12%, max $100 | Item price + shipping + gift wrap on orders attributed to an Etsy ad |
Sellers outside the US pay a different processing rate set by their bank country — 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 in the euro area, 3% + CA$0.25 in Canada for domestic orders — and some pay a regulatory operating fee on top: 0.48% in the UK, 0.50% in Canada, 1.14% in France, 0.80% in Italy and 0.88% in Spain. Pick your bank country in the calculator and the right rates are applied.
Worked example: a $25 item with $5 shipping
A US seller sells one $25 item and charges $5 shipping. The buyer's state adds $2.40 sales tax. The item costs $8 to make and the label costs $4.50.
- Order subtotal = $25 + $5 = $30.
- Listing fee = $0.20 (the listing renews automatically when it sells).
- Transaction fee = 6.5% × $30 = $1.95.
- Payment processing = 3% × ($30 + $2.40 tax) + $0.25 = $1.22.
- Total fees = $3.37, or 11.2% of the order. Etsy remits the sales tax, so your payout is $30 − $3.37 = $26.63.
- Profit = $26.63 − $8 − $4.50 = $14.13, a 47.1% margin on the order.
If the same buyer had arrived through an Offsite Ad, add 15% × $30 = $4.50 and the profit falls to $9.63.
Offsite Ads: the fee that surprises sellers
Etsy advertises listings on Google, social networks and other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay an Offsite Ads fee on the order: 15% if your shop has never made more than $10,000 in a 365-day period, or 12% once it has — and from then on, participation is mandatory. The fee is capped at $100 per order, so it matters most on mid-priced items. Shops under the threshold can opt out in their settings. You cannot tell in advance which orders will be attributed to an ad, so many sellers price with a small buffer for it.
Share & Save
When a buyer comes to your shop through your own tracked Share & Save link — from your Instagram bio, newsletter or website — Etsy credits back 4% of the order total as a reduction in your fees. The credit is never applied to an order that Offsite Ads already claimed.
Ways to keep more of each sale
- Price shipping honestly. Fees apply to shipping just like the item, so "free shipping" baked into the price costs the same in fees — but it does help in search. Compare both with the calculator.
- Bundle. The $0.25 processing fixed fee is per order, so a buyer adding a second item lowers your fee percentage.
- Drive your own traffic. Sales through your Share & Save link earn the 4% credit and are never charged an Offsite Ads fee.
- Watch currency settings. Pricing listings in the same currency as your bank account avoids the 2.5% conversion fee.
Limits of this calculator
- It covers one order. Monthly costs such as Etsy Ads budgets, Etsy Plus ($10/month) and the one-time shop setup fee are not included.
- Etsy does not publish its cent-rounding rules; each fee here is rounded to the nearest cent, so a statement can differ by a cent or two.
- For non-US sellers, Etsy's US-dollar amounts (the $0.20 listing fee and the $100 Offsite Ads cap) are converted at the ECB reference rate of 2026-10-07; Etsy bills at its own rate.
- Tax that Etsy adds to the fees themselves is not included. Shops based in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or an EU country other than Ireland pay VAT or GST on their Etsy fees unless they have added a VAT ID to their Etsy account; shops in Ireland pay it whether or not they have one; Canadian shops are charged GST/HST, PST, RST or QST on fees, depending on their tax status.
- Shipping label prices depend on carrier and service; enter what you actually pay.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a $20 sale?
For a US seller with no shipping charge and no sales tax: $0.20 listing + $1.30 transaction (6.5%) + $0.85 processing (3% + $0.25) = $2.35, or 11.75% of the sale. Shipping charges and sales tax increase the fees; an Offsite Ads sale adds 12–15%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge as well as the item price, and payment processing applies to the whole amount the buyer paid, shipping included.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
For US sellers, the transaction fee does not apply to sales tax, but the payment processing fee does — Etsy charges 3% on the total the buyer paid, tax included. This calculator includes it; enter the tax in the advanced options.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
A fee of 15% (or 12% for shops that have passed $10,000 in sales in a year) on orders that come from Etsy's ads on other websites, capped at $100 per order. Shops under the threshold can opt out.
Is the Etsy listing fee charged again when an item sells?
Usually, yes. Listings renew automatically after a sale and each renewal costs $0.20, and each extra unit sold in the same order is charged $0.20. That is why the calculator counts $0.20 per unit sold.
What is Etsy's regulatory operating fee?
A percentage Etsy charges sellers based in certain countries to cover local regulatory costs: 0.48% in the UK, 0.50% in Canada, 1.14% in France, 0.80% in Italy and 0.88% in Spain, among others. US sellers do not pay it.
How do I calculate my Etsy profit margin?
Subtract all Etsy fees and your own costs (materials, labor, packaging and postage) from the order subtotal, then divide the profit by the subtotal. Enter your costs above and the calculator shows profit, margin and the break-even price.
Are digital downloads charged the same Etsy fees?
Yes — listing, transaction and processing fees apply the same way. Set shipping to 0. Because there is no postage cost, digital products usually show much higher margins.
